Giveaway Day part 2!

Welcome to Giveaway Day! Hosted by Sew Mama Sew! each year, this event celebrates those of us who create! Anyone with a blog is welcome to join in, and give away an item for crafting (specifically related to sewing), or a handmade item. Today I'm giving away two items!

This item is a set of five reusable cloth napkins and a travel sized placemat! My daughter has lunch at school, and at the beginning of the year they asked us to send two paper towels each day in her lunch - one for a placemat and one for a napkin. I couldn't bear the thought of wasting all those paper towels, so I made her a set of reusable cloth napkins, and a placemat made of laminated cotton! We wash her napkins and wipe down her placemat as needed, and they go back in her lunchbox for the next day - she loves them and I love not throwing away all those paper towels!

You can win your own set today - perfect for your child or for yourself! The laminated cotton placemat is bpa free and has a decorative serged edge. It should be wiped clean with a damp cloth and laid flat to dry. The set of five napkins (one for each day of the work week!) is made of cotton quilting fabric and is double sized and features top-stitching for a professional finish and look.

To win, leave me a comment telling me your favorite handmade item to give as a gift! Please leave your email address in your comment to make sure I can contact you! Thanks for stopping by! Giveaway closes at 5pm PST May 25. I'll update this post with the winner by Sunday May 27!

***UPDATE** Brooke is the winner! Congrats Brooke! Thanks to everyone for stopping by!
If you didn't win, you can purchase your own set of cloth napkins in my etsy store. I plan on adding the placemats soon!

  5. Such a great idea! I can't believe the school asks you to do that every day, seems like a waste!

I like making little pouches for gifts because they're so versatile and fun.

  6. My very favorite handmade item to give as a gift is a hand-quilted quilt... but that's not an everyday gift! *grin* Pot holder and coaster sets are always good ideas, as are cloth napkins...

Thanks for the opportunity to win! :)

  7. Nice that your school allows you to do that. I've had so many friends (in Houston) whose daycares refused to let them cloth diaper, whose schools refused to let them pack lunches where anything needed to be brought back home (should be in a throwaway bag, too) (and one school (this one in El Paso, where I was substitute teaching) that won't even let parents pack lunches at all, and gives kids fast-food breakfast sandwiches whether or not they've already had breakfast, because the school gets money from the federal school lunch program for each thing that's eaten, and it's official "nutritionally balanced" junk food rather than parent-chosen food so therefore obviously better), and a daycare that required formula and store-bought baby food rather than breastmilk bottles and homemade baby food... and if you don't have the luxury to pick and choose fancy daycares, you're stuck with that one or one that's worse! ... you're lucky to have a tolerant school that doesn't get you in trouble for that. (Although I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the school just gives her paper towels and grouses at the parent who won't play along...) Had one coworker, single mother of three with no money, borrow money from friends to cover the massive shopping list the public school sent for each kid (3 bottles Clorox apiece! 12 rolls paper towels! toilet paper! kleenex! What happened to the days when school supplies were just pen and paper?)... anyhow, rant over. My go-to gift for babies is a self-binding two-layer flannel blanket - made one in half an hour yesterday morning when I forgot we were going to meet a new baby. They sew up fast! My favorite would be something more involved, like a baby quilt.

  8. I love to give handmade cloth napkins as a gift...but our family uses them everyday and I rarely make them just for us. These would be a beautiful addition to our small stack! Thank you.

  9. I so need these. I was just talking about making some the other day. I don't really have a go to item to make. I just make things with people in mind sometimes. Something I know they will like. It varies.

  10. I love cloth napkins!

My go-to gift item is tote bags, they're just so useful and cheerful. I like table runners too, though I can't say I've seen anyone actually *use* one that I've made, so perhaps I should rethink that? Placemats are totally fun too!

  13. This is a giveaway after my own heart! I can't even begin to describe how useful these would be ... not to mention, I've had cloth set aside for making something just like this and our school year is over in 2 weeks. It sure would be nice to have it just DONE for next year.

I have a purse that I like to give as a gift. It gets so many compliments and I've accidentally run into friends who I've made it for only to see them using the purse. So I know they're not just trying to be nice.

  42. My favorite gift to give is hand-knit socks. Sent my daughter off to college with 7 pairs. She thought I was nuts, but came home for Thanksgiving wanting me to make some for her roommate. After she passed, I hand-dyed 4 pounds of sock yarn and made 10 pairs for her friends, and still have enough yarn left to make myself a shawl.

  43. I would have totally done the same thing. I cringe at the thought of wasting so much even if it seems so little. My favourite handmade gift is softies as I have had a few babies arrive recently and then I have made freezer stencilled cushions for a few 5 year olds parties so that's fun too.

  50. What a great idea! Love it. Thanks for hosting such a lovely giveaway. :-)

I don't really have a particular favourite item - it depends on what I'm enjoying making at the time, and what I think the person I'm making something for would like. Probably the most consistent thing I make to give away is home baking though! After all, everyone loves home-made goodies, haha!
