Comment early, comment often

I decided today that comments count. No, not the number (although that is nice), just the saying of "hi, that's pretty" can really make my day, and I'm sure others. And yet, while in my head I whine (sometimes) about the (rare) low comments I get, I read over 200 blogs, and *maybe* comment on 10-15 regularly. So, resolution #245386 for 2007 - comment early, comment often!

In other news, I attempted to knit both fronts of CPH at the same time on the same circular needle at the commandment prodding suggestion of one of my LYS owners.

Yep, photographic proof that I tried it. And I hated it. I was always trying to figure out which front to work on next, what order did they need to go in, did they need to go in an order, which way was RS? I made it through the ribbing, but when it was time to switch to the charts, I knit one front onto the larger needle, and left the other to wait it's turn. I guess I can say I've tried it now, and I won't try it again any time soon. She's also suggesting that I knit two socks on two circulars, and I'm thinkin' that's a NO as well.

What are you trying new this year?

I should have all 'new' KAL participants listed in the sidebar - double check and make sure I've got you there! We're at nearly 50 people - woot!

  1. I would think following a chart and knitting two would be hard, but sleeves are great knit two at once since they are the same. I want to try designing my own sweater or color knitting. I'll see.

  2. Acck, I tried and disliked the practice myself, and I'm tried and true DP girl myself for socks.

Could you please add me too your It's Not a Gift KAL, I will be completeing my Knitty Starsky Cardigan that I started and let languish.

I've only knit two sleeves at the same time; I often join the two sleeves with a stitch holder or safety pin or something so that they emulate a single piece, and I insist on only stopping when I've finished both rows of the pieces--NEVER stop in between, because you'll go back and have _no idea_ where you are. All this sometimes adds up to more of a pain in the butt than is worth it!

Oh yeah, I did 2 socks on 2 circs as my Olympic Knitting project last year. It wasn't the total disaster I feared it would be - but I really didn't enjoy it either. Although yesterday I was thinking that maybe I'll give it a shot again soon. Just to see if I like it any better the second time. LOL

I knit my CPH fronts separately -- I've done the both at once thing and it's a trade-off. Less time making sure the fronts are the same, more time switching gears and making sure you don't stop in the middle sometime & do the same piece twice.

With CPH, it's easy to keep track of the number of cables you've knit & where you are in the pattern, so knitting them separately worked.

I knit both sleeves and both the left and right fronts on the needles at the same time, but I did it on straight needles. I also (because I have a brain block with this for some reason) put one of those stitch marker things through the corner of the right front so I could tell instantly which side was which. It worked out fine because then I could do the cables exactly the same, and the shoulders exactly the same. That said, I don't think I'd do it on circulars.

Thanks for sharing that you like to make things the same color they are in the pattern photos. The pink projects always get me, but if things are knitted in colors I don't wear (earth colors) I have a really hard time liking them or envisioning them in different colors.

I also HATE working more than one piece on the same needle. When I have to divide the front of a sweater at the neckline, it drives me crazy. The only saving grace is that I know it is just for a bit.

BTW, I am hoping to have my first FO of 2007 by the end of the week. This is for the It's Not a Gift KAL.

  9. I never knit two-at-once like that. My mom tried to teach me to do that for sleeves, but UGH! I hate it! I'd rather use a row counter or piece of paper to make sure my pieces end up the same.

  10. So honored to make your cut! And, yeah, sleeve island is really really long when you do it like that!
