Inspired by other bloggers, I'm going to do the "52 books in 52 weeks." Now obviously, I don't have to read a book a week, just average that. I've got tons of books to choose from (my house is full of them), but I'd like your suggestions. What is your favorite book? Or just a great read? What book really made you think? Leave me some suggestions in the comments. My first book is "The Secret Life of Bees." It is "supposed" to be very good, we'll see if I like it.

Finally, to fill the picture void, I leave you with this. As I was packing the yarn for my Indiana trip, I began to notice a theme.

Left to right: Yarn for Turtleneck Shrug, Ribby Cardi, Wristwarmers, Leaf Lace Shawl, Basic Cable Hat and Jaywalkers.

Can you tell what it is?

  1. If you want a good but fast read for your 52 books in 52 weeks then try Falling Angels by Tracy Chevalier.

I'd like to join the It's Not a Gift Kal. I'll just have to work hard at finding something to knit for myself! I think I might do a Ravenclaw scarf if I'm not ready to tear my hair out over all the scarves I have to knit this month!!!

  2. Wow! Totally impressed with your January goals. I like the idea of doing shorter-term goals.

Averaging a book a week -- cool! I am with you! I have another blog, where I am writing a little bit about each book that I read. It's really so that I can have a record of what I read, and what I thought about it. It's called La Lectrice Eclectique.

I liked The Secret Life of Bees, and it was a quick read for me. I am going to think about your question, and do a post on my reading blog about my favorite reads.

  3. The books that pop to mind are The Time Traveler's Wife, The Kite Runner, The Other Boleyn Girl and Devil in the White City. I'm trying to increase my reading this year, too ... I let it slide a bit for knitting. I can knit plain stockinette while knitting ... I see lots of basic sweaters in my future!

    Hi Jenn,
I love your December and January lists. You are a brave woman. Your yarn is beautiful. I love knitpicks too.

As far as books go, I had been teaching a couple of years before I read all of the Chronicles of Narnia. They are really not for kids only. For some reason, I was never pointed in that direction as a child and had a wonderful suprise in my grown-up years.

  5. Love the Whitby socks - great pattern for men. I gave a pair to a friend, and he wore them for 3 days straight. I had to promise to make another pair to get him to wash them. Eww . . .
