Sheepy Goodness

Yay for a second F'd O!

My LYS got this pattern in a few weeks ago, and I had to have it (I may also have had to have the hedgehog one. So cute.). I finally got around to knitting it up a few days ago and finally finished it on Sunday. Isn't he cute?

Pattern: A Felt Flock from Fiber Trends
Yarn: Paton's Classic Merino in dark grey and black.
Needles: Sz 10.5 Clover Bamboo needles
Mods: None
Thoughts: Oops. I picked up the stitches for the hooves backwards. Oh well. Still cute. Overall, I love this guy! I hopefully will be teaching a class on how to knit him at the LYS this fall. I think I need some more. Good thing I have more "sheep colored" yarn!

And y'all's comments are too sweet! There is a BIG boo-boo on one side (where I dropped a stitch and didn't entirely pick it up right (it was on an increase row, I think I missed some part of the increase when I tried to pick it up).
I wore the Firey Bolero today with that same shirt and had no gappage. But the sleeves were awfully warm. And I might have gotten teased by the custodian for "running out of thread."

(We did get to have recess today - the rain from the last two days cooled it off enough - thanks for all those cooling thoughts! However, the rain brought with it power outtages, both at home - woke up late - and a few times on and off at school. But I'll take it!)

Finally, I need your opinions. I love this skank of yarn. Mmmm. All Things Heather from my KSKS pal. But I'm having a dilemma. Plain socks? Pattern socks? Something else? The problem is that there are hardly any patterns for sport weight socks. The only one I've found that I like is the Ribble Socks from Socks Socks Socks. Alternatively, I could make the lovely Mobius Scarf, recently featured on Knitty Gritty. (Can I digress? Knitty Gritty shows one of the best episodes ever, and follows it up with a horrid tube top/fun fur combo top - man I love fun fur in my armpits! - and then follows that up with lovely Annie Modisett! Make up your minds - good or bad!)
The problem is that I feel badly about making something other than socks out of this - it's soooooo pretty. Mmmmm. Perhaps plain socks with a cute picot edge? Opinions people, I need em!

Oh, and whoever asked about the "cute yarn second from the right" in the birthday sock swag picture (sorry I can't email you back - stupid blogger), it's Scout's Handpainted Swag in a "just for me" colorway - but I'm sure she'd recreate it for you, right Scout? :)

  1. Yep...picot topped socks, but then you already know my bias there. They are just far more satisfying.

And Knitty Gritty? Not so much, I'm afraid. I find the fun-fur/elastic yarn quotient to be far higher than anything I might actually be caught dead wearing, let alone knitting. Sigh...wish I could like it more.

    And adorable sheep! Very nice.

  3. Your lambie is adorable! I agree on the plain socks with the picot edge. The yarn looks perfect for that.

  4. that yarn looks like it might stripe, so i think the ribbles would be obscured. i'd do plain with picots too.

  8. What a cute sheep!

I would do plain socks, I'm not fan of the picot edging, but that's just who I am. It would look cute though with the picot.

  10. What a cute lambie! :)

You could always make an upsized round-bottom bag with the yarn to show it off-- like the one in One Skein or Magknits' "amulet" bag... but I like picot socks :) Maybe a simple lace panel-- I used a chart from "adventures with a desi knitter" for a cloverleaf eyelet pattern-- http://desiknitter.typepad.com/Cloverleafsockspattern.pdf (PDF!) that you could downsize into your yarn and easily insert as well.

  12. That sheep is one of the cutest handknit stuffed animals I have seen! And even though you say you made a few mistakes, it is still totally adorable!
