WIP Wednesday: Fabric Stacks

No real sewing to speak of lately, but I have been making pretty stacks for the next round of quilts. Now if my kids would be healthy and could go to school maybe I could sew!

WIP Wednesday

I am so excited that I managed to finish up the last five Lucky Stars blocks last week. Now I have to decide how I want to put my quilt together! I haven't been sewing much this week, but I am looking forward to getting back to the machine. I have five quilts waiting to be basted, and I finally bought batting. Hoping to get backing made this week and get some basting done next week! Three are queen sized, one is nearly, and one is a throw, so it will be a lot of basting!
Today I sat down and made a list of what I want to work on in the upcoming months, and I think I will pull fabric and play with color ideas just for fun between chores tomorrow!

WIP Wednesday - Paper piecing

I have mostly been knitting as fast as I can this week, but I did finish up these four Lucky Stars blocks at the end of last week. I always think I love paper piecing, then it can be tricky to line up seams, and I get frustrated and vow never to do it again, and then I see the finished blocks and love it again. It's a vicious cycle I guess!

WIP Wednesday

This week I've been busy binding that pile of quilts I got basted a few weeks ago. And I wanted to ask - do you buy your backing and binding when you purchase the rest of your fabric? Or do you buy things you think will make a good binding/backing for something, someday and just choose from your stash when you need something? Sometimes I purchase backing when I plan a quilt, but I often forget about binding, and I don't have a very large stash, so inevitably, I am going back to the store for either or both when I'm ready to baste/bind.

I've also been working on my Swoon blocks and I really like the way they are coming out.

And in spare moments I've been working again on my Dancing Triangles quilt - almost have all the pink, green, orange and purple piecing done - then on to red, blue and yellow!

WIP Wednesday

I've done a bit of cutting and piecing this week, in between coughing fits, and dealing with sick kids. Blech.

I'm ready to assemble the blocks on my gift quilt.

I cut all the pieces for my solids quilt for the FWMQG Solids Challenge.

And Saturday, during baby's awesome nap, I basted four quilts! Now to have the energy to quilt them!

WIP Wednesday

I haven't had a lot of sewing time this week, but I have been pulling fabric for projects!
This lovely stack is my color selection for our guild's BOM challenge this year - I am really excited to see it come together!

I am pairing these lovely Art Gallery fabrics with Kona Sage to make a quilt for a gift.

And I am determined to make myself a Swoon quilt this year, using Florence and Kona Coal.

When I have had a few minutes to sew, I've been working on my Dancing Stars quilt, which I cut all the fabric for and printed all the sheets last summer. It has been the perfect project to work on when I only have stolen moments to sew.

I am hoping to get lots of sewing done on Monday when hubby is home - fingers crossed!

WIP Wednesday

I have been a busy bee since the holidays! One of my goals this year is to finish things, so I have been on a mission to get things done! I have pulled several things from hibernation, and set to work finishing others. Some I can't show yet, but I am excited to have some things ready to quilt! I'm going to have to stop finishing quilt tops at some point though, and start quilting!

WIP Wednesday

As if I didn't have enough other projects going on, I decided to make one more very special quilt this Christmas. I have everything cut out, now to have enough alone sewing time to get it done!

WIP Wednesday

It seems like it's been forever since I've done a WIP Wednesday post! I keep meaning too, and then it's 10:30 on Wednesday night and I remember I didn't get to it on my way to bed.

FWMQG BOM

I finished my quilt top for the FWMQG BOM. Now to get it quilted and bound before our December meeting!

I'm hoping to get this one basted this weekend so I can start quilting it. I'm thinking it will be a Christmas gift for my father in law.

This one I am loving - and since I probably won't be able to give it away, it won't be basted and quilted until after the holidays.

I've also got three more quilts that just need to be bound, and I'm trying to decide if I can squeeze in another quilt before Christmas. And that doesn't include the kid's Christmas outfits I need to sew, and all the gifts I'm working on, plus my knitting and design work! It's going to be a busy few weeks around here!

WIP Wednesday

It's been forever since I've done a WIP Wednesday post! I have been keeping busy working on clothes for the Sew All 26 -along, and doing some quilting. But today I pulled out three projects I cut out in September and did some simple patchwork. It was very nice.

WIP Wednesday

It's Wednesday again, and I don't have much to show in terms of WIPs. The bambino has been extra fussy the past week or so, and hubby started teacher prep week Monday, so I haven't had my extra set of hands! :)
I did finish my low volume quilt top Sunday at naptime. It just needed sashing and sewing the rows together. I really like the way it came out, and I already have the backing made! It has been added to the 'to baste' pile.

WIP Wednesday

At the end of last week, with a fussy, wanting to be held baby, I broke down and made a design wall. I used the only wall in the house that has nothing already hanging in it. I was able to lay out two quilts' worth of blocks, and hold the baby, something I couldn't do if I was laying out quilts on the floor as I used to. I'm afraid to leave anything up for fear of removal  by tiny hands and various paws and tails, but it's nice to have! Now to figure out some way to roll it up and keep it pet hair free!

WIP Wednesday

I seem to have shoved aside all other projects in favor of this one. 10 more blocks since last week. They are the potato chips of sewing for me lately-I just can't make one. I love it.

In other progress I've quilted my negative space project and it just needs me to make bias binding and finish it up! Good thing it has a deadline or I'm sure these blocks would push it aside! Maybe I need to start thinking about fabric for the backing of the subway quilt....

WIP Wednesday

Sewing time is still pretty scarce these days, but I have managed to squeeze in a few minutes here and there and that can add up!

I started my Tokyo Subway Map quilt last Thursday at my sewing day. I only finished two blocks, but I can't wait to work on this more! I pieced three more blocks worth of strips on Friday and just had time today to sew them into blocks.

It is so satisfying for me to piece tiny squares! It makes me want to make many more quilts like this! I think this will be a fairly quick finish.

On Saturday while the baby napped a bit and the big kids played outside with daddy, I made four quilt backs! I generally dislike piecing quilt backs, but doing them in a batch like this seemed easier. I even managed to get two quilts basted that afternoon while the kids napped! Now to just have time to quilt them!

WIP Wednesday

It's been several weeks since I've posted for WIP Wednesday! Life has been busy with the new baby and not much sewing has been happening! But I have squeezed in bits here and there.

I finished my science fair quilt for the Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild's negative space challenge. Now to choose backing and binding fabric.

I finished my log cabin squares for our low volume challenge too, now to decide if I want sashing, and if so, what.

I also have two quilts worth of half square triangles to trim!

I'm heading to a sewing day with friends tomorrow, and I don't feel like spending all day trimming blocks, so I cut the solids for my Tokyo subway map quilt and my Dancing Stars quilt.

I need to choose fabrics for the last few months of Lucky Stars blocks too. I've got the papers printed, now to spend some time on Flickr looking at other folks color combinations!

Plenty to keep me busy!

WIP Wednesday

I haven't been sewing much with everyone home for summer and trying to get ready for the baby, and when I am sewing it seems to be etsy orders and bags for friends and MadTosh customers! But I did get Ben's quilt top finished and made some progress on the FWMQG challenges!

Ellie's quilt top

Ben's quilt top

Progress on my negative space challenge-Jaybird Quilt's Science Fair quilt using Painters Canvas-all my blocks are made and I just need to lay everything out!

Instead of doing more work sewing this afternoon (in my defense I need to pick up more fabric!) I started my Low Volume Challenge! I'm doing log cabin blocks with cool colored solid centers.

I also cut all my print fabrics for my dancing triangles quilt-now to cut my white and background fabrics!

Not going to be doing much sewing next week since I'm working all week, so I'm going to try to squeeze some more in the rest of this week before this baby gets here!

WIP Wednesday

I've been missing WIP Wednesday these last few weeks. Seems I would forget to blog or not having anything I could share. However, I now find myself with plenty of projects! I have Ellie's quilt top done and Ben's nearly done, but I won't be quilting those until after baby gets here-just can't get motivated to baste and quilt two queen size quilts three weeks before I give birth!

In light of our impending arrival, and a few upcoming deadlines, I decided I would start cutting fabric for a few new quilts. I know it will be very difficult to press down to cut fabric after giving birth, so I am using that as an excuse to kickstart a few projects. :) Maybe a few too many projects. More details as these actually start to become things other than piles of fabric, but there my negative space challenge and low volume challenge from the FWMQG are in there and I started cutting a Tokyo subway map quilt finally! I am really excited about that one, though I have lots more cutting to do!

WIP Wednesday-lots of cutting edition!

Well I haven't been sewing much this week since my mom was visiting, but in the last two days I've tried to make up for that!

I've had to cut and make more half-square triangles for the quilt-a-long.

I've got a few crazy busy weeks coming up, so I decided to cut the fabrics for Ben and Ellie's big bed quilts, which will be simple patchwork-just what I'll need when I am too tired to think but need to sew!

The fabrics for my nephews big boy bed quilt arrived today, so I need to make my templates and start cutting that out as well!

And finally, I started quilting my Simply Color quilt, and I can't decide if I want quilting lines through every square, or every other square (as it is now). What do you all think?

WIP Wednesday

I haven't done much sewing this week. I did make the girls dresses and make the Easter basket goodies. Today I was excited to get my Simply Color quilt basted and get the quilt top for our impending arrival all sewn up. My mom is visiting this weekend, so I won't be sewing much, but I might get some fabric cut for the next quilts!
