I hate school

So I spent the ENTIRE weekend on this stupid family history project for my social studies class - only to discover that part of what was the "assignment" wasn't on the rubric - so did I waste my time?

And then I get to class tonight to turn in the monster, only to discover that the professor is absent, I have be put "in charge" of collecting the projects and passing out the midterm. The midterm that she described at the beginning of the semester as "easy." The midterm that is due in one week. The midterm that has 7 (count them, seven) components, each a "mini" project. And I use the word "mini" loosely.

Oh, and did she forget to tell us that a "check up" for our next project (reading and reviewing 25 children's books that deal with social studies) is due Friday? Luckily (really?) I stumbled across this online as I was trying to see what books had already been posted about (as we're not supposed to copy entries (out of 75 students between 3 classes)) and found that we can't see what else has been posted - haha.

So so much for doing anything else this week (read for my book groups, knit, oh yeah, the other class I'm taking and the inservice I'm trying to prep for that I have to give next week). I guess this is what I get for thinking I would avoid social studies for a whole week.

How many days until graduation?

Does anyone else dread the weekend?

And it's not even due to work, 'cause I work M-F.....but it always seems like so much time to accomplish so much stuff...but nothing ever seems to get done.....hmmmmmm.

Lately I feel like I spend more time reading knit blogs than knitting - but I find them so inspiring, and it makes me feel like I'm not the only one out there!

While I'm reading the blogs the TV is on for noise - I surf a bit, discover that the only watchable thing on is "What not to Wear" which I haven't seen in months - all I can say is OH MY GOD. If you missed this episode, titled "Ed," look for a rerun - set up that TIVO wish list/season pass. You will not believe what this man wears.....And wants to be taken seriously......yikes, but it does make me feel more confident in my wardrobe choices!

Off to margaritas!

Procrastination

So....how is it already Thursday night? Have I done anything this week? Will anything get done this weekend? How is it almost Spring Break?

I have an inservice I have to prepare to give at my school, a test to write for one of the professors I work for, a visit of 350 sixth grade students to my campus for the other professor I work for, much library research for one of the professor's WIP, my own project for my social studies class, lesson plans to write...i want to climb into a hole and not come out!

In financial fun, my momma is doing my taxes, and has decided to itemize my deductions this year...so she made me go through all of my 2004 receipts (which I keep b/c I am anal) and find any from "teacher purchases." Ouch....I know I am missing some b/c I used my bonus last Christmas to buy books for my classroom, and I am already over $300. DH really liked that number.....

Knitting, who has time for that? Oh, and I'm supposed to be reading for my book groups...hahaha....next week?

Wednesday

Catchy title, eh? Sometimes I amaze myself.

So more laziness ensued this week, but mostly just blogging laziness. I actually DID NOT KNIT all weekend, due to the onslaught of the sewing machine goodness. Was very grouchy Monday - either due to 48 hours straight of DH or lack of fiber fun. Hmmmmm....it's a toss-up.

Came home Monday, very tired and moody, only to try to cast on for my knitty gritty skinny scarf....right, can you fit 400 stitches on a 13" needle? Anyone, Anyone....Bueller? Well, in case you can't guess, the answer is no.

Tuesday morning I tried starting some mice from SnB Nation, but was constantly interrupted. So, on the way home from work I stopped at the fabric store that sells some yarn and needles....did they have any in the right size......of course not. So I was a bad mommy - came home, let the puppy out to potty, put him back in his kennel and started my search. Luckily, I only had to visit two stores before I found US 10 circular needles that would hold all my stitches.

And since this is Texas, and it was supposed to rain all day Tuesday, it was near 80, so when I got home from the needle hunt, the dogs and I relaxed in the back yard with some yarn and the sun.....made up for ugly Monday.

Now it's downer Wednesday....I have reading and a paper draft to write for school....but Lost and the West Wing are on......choices choices.........

Should do something.....

Crafty goodness

So, in a fit of "I hate schoolwork" I was a crafty girl yesterday - bought some fun fur for the kitty's upcoming kitty bed, and bought some of that oh-so-soft and not too warm (this is Texas, ya know) Lion microspun to make a skinny scarf. DH does not approve of how much yarn costs.....oh well.

And, in a fit of craziness, got out my sewing machine (which was my grandmothers and is probably older than I am), fired it up (and only made all the lights in the house flicker once), and created.......

I'm afraid the crafts might take over the house......

Just found out it is going to be 77 today, may not get much of anything done due to requiste outdoor playtime.....some days it's good to live in Texas!

Lazy

So I get all worked up about starting the blog - to do so or not do so....and then I don't write anything for five days....Yeah, I'm cool. I just finished DH's V-day hat and i-pod cozie, made myself a hat, and then only had one project going (pic to come). So, started up a dishcloth last night while watching season 2 Alias from the great and wonderful (and turning me into a couch-potato) Netflix. I know.....boooooring. We had parent-teacher conferences for the past two days and I'm not sure I have any brain cells left. I'm pretty sure I was saying all the same things about all my kids by the end. Oh well.....so the DH has the weekend off of work, I'm worried we might kill each other and there might have to be a LYS visit.
I started reading this last week when the professor I normally work for was out of town....still not sure how I feel about it, but I'll keep plugging along. And I stumbled across Knit One Read Two and signed up to be a member of their book group, and they are reading for March this....which I haven't been able to get past page 50 of since Christmas. And my real, in person book group is reading this, which I read a year and a half ago, so do I really have to read it again?
In the news......makes me want to go to Kansas and tell some people off. Thanks to bookslut for the link.
OK, must go pretend to be productive. Pictures to come....

So I've finally succumbed.....

This is it, the beginning of the end. Not normally a "trendy" person, I fought the urge to blog for a long time, but boy did I enjoy reading others! Now I can hold back the tides of change no longer....I too am a blogger. And who really cares? Probably only me, but it's nice to vent to the world, instead of internally. So here goes....knitting and litting.....or reading, whatever.
So...background....if anyone cares....I'm a recently married twenty-something, with a nearly seven year old stepdaughter, three dogs (one almost brand new!), a cat, a mortgage, etc. I'm in grad school for the second time, and I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel.
My mom tells me I taught myself to read before I started kindergarten, and since I don't remember this, I'll have to take her word for my child prodigy background. I do remember reading anything and everything I could find, and being dismayed at the ten-book limit my local bookmobile had. I stopped reading in high school, but returned with a vengance when I worked at a bookstore in college. Our home has nearly 1,000 books, and it seems more arrive weekly. And will we ever read them all? Probably not, but c'est la vie. Luckily for me, my DH is also an avid reader, so it's OK that we need a seperate room to hold our books.
Last year for Christmas one of my good friends bought me a knitting kit (put out by Urban Outfitters, of all people!) and it languished in the corner of my study for six months. Then, in a fit of boredom, having just finished one book and trying to savor it before moving on to the next, I opened the kit. I lasted maybe ten minutes, before it returned to the corner of the study and I watched Felicity instead. But I was determined not to let her gift go to waste. After all, I had prompted the gift by saying that I wanted to learn to knit....I must follow through. So, two days before Christmas, in an effort to not watch Jim Carrey ruin the Grinch one more time, and allow my stepdaughter and nephew some space, I retreated to the bedroom with said kit and a cheap Barnes & Noble "learn to knit and crochet" book that I purchased because it was the cheapest knitting book I could find. And viola, two days later a tie was born. Looking at it now I am appalled at how bad it was; no even tension, wobbly rows, but darn it if DH didn't wear it to work the next day....isn't that sweet? Or maybe he just wanted something....at any rate, I'm slowly but surely progressing, I finally learned to purl and I'm trying my first "in the round" project. Oh, and that friend who started this whole thing decided she wanted to learn too, so we're learning together.
Now that I've put y'all to sleep, I'll leave you be.....enjoy your weekend!
