WIP Wednesday

Sewing time is still pretty scarce these days, but I have managed to squeeze in a few minutes here and there and that can add up!

I started my Tokyo Subway Map quilt last Thursday at my sewing day. I only finished two blocks, but I can't wait to work on this more! I pieced three more blocks worth of strips on Friday and just had time today to sew them into blocks.

It is so satisfying for me to piece tiny squares! It makes me want to make many more quilts like this! I think this will be a fairly quick finish.

On Saturday while the baby napped a bit and the big kids played outside with daddy, I made four quilt backs! I generally dislike piecing quilt backs, but doing them in a batch like this seemed easier. I even managed to get two quilts basted that afternoon while the kids napped! Now to just have time to quilt them!

Camp Loopy

Every year The Loopy Ewe holds Camp Loopy in the summer. I've never participated before, but a friend sort of challenged me to. As if I didn't have enough already going on! The first challenge was to knit something with a yarn you've never used before. With the variety of yarn they carry, that wasnt difficult!

multnomah

I knit Multnomah for my first project. I should add that I decided to do this on June 14th, received my yarn on the 17th, and had a baby the 19th! Good thing it is mostly garter stitch!

For July we had to knit a popular pattern. I chose Happy Street. It took FOREVER.

I'm knitting Folded for project 3 and I can't wait to get started!

Modern Half-Square Triangle Quilt-a-Long Block 47

Welcome! If you are just joining us, information about materials can be found here, and here are the previous blocks: Block 1Block 2Block 3Block 4Block 5Block 6Block 7Block 8Block 9Block 10Block 11Block 12Block 13, Block 14Block 15Block 16Block 17Block 18Block 19Block 20Block 21Block 22Block 23Block 24Block 25Block 26Block 27Block 28Block 29Block 30Block 31Block 32Block 33Block 34Block 35Block 36, Block 37Block 38Block 39Block 40Block 41Block 42Block 43Block 44Block 45Block 46.

Block 47

Materials:
8 3.5" squares of Color A
8 3.5" squares of Color B

*note* these are the essential materials for each block, so you can cut several blocks worth of fabric at once to save time!

Create your blocks, following the same procedure as last week. If you need help making your blocks, please see this post. You should end up with 16 2.5" squares. Ready to lay out your block? Here we go!

ROW 3

ROW 4

After you have sewn your squares into rows, press your seams. I like to press odd numbered rows to the left, and even to the right. It helps to use a small piece of paper to number your rows. I like the tiny post-it notes.

After pressing, you are ready to sew your rows together! Pin, if necessary, but I find that these short rows don't require pinning.

Block 47

Press one final time, and voila! Another finished block! Only 25 to go! Remember to add your blocks to our flickr group!

Please, if you have questions, email me at knitnlit AT gmail DOT com, or make sure you leave your email address in your comment. I've had several folks ask questions in the comments, but if you are a no-reply commenter, I can't email you back.

August Classes

Here's a look at what I'm teaching in August at MadTosh!

Untitled

This is the Mizutama Shawl - a fun knit that takes one skein of fingering weight yarn! I used Tosh Merino Light in Pop Rocks.

earthsky

Earth and Sky by Stephen West - a great introduction to intarsia!

Untitled

Elijah! Such a cute knit! My kids really wanted me to keep this one!

Untitled

And this Double Knit Cowl - such a great accessory! Super warm and a nice introduction to double knitting!

Class information is available here, and you can call or stop by the store to sign up!

WIP Wednesday

It's been several weeks since I've posted for WIP Wednesday! Life has been busy with the new baby and not much sewing has been happening! But I have squeezed in bits here and there.

I finished my science fair quilt for the Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild's negative space challenge. Now to choose backing and binding fabric.

I finished my log cabin squares for our low volume challenge too, now to decide if I want sashing, and if so, what.

I also have two quilts worth of half square triangles to trim!

I'm heading to a sewing day with friends tomorrow, and I don't feel like spending all day trimming blocks, so I cut the solids for my Tokyo subway map quilt and my Dancing Stars quilt.

I need to choose fabrics for the last few months of Lucky Stars blocks too. I've got the papers printed, now to spend some time on Flickr looking at other folks color combinations!

Plenty to keep me busy!

Linking up with Lee!

Baby Knits

I finally got some pictures of the things I knitted for our new little man! Nothing too exciting, but nice basics.

Untitled

I made his blanket using a variety of Cotton Ease colors - some I had used in Ben and Ellie's blankets, and some 'new' colors. I based the blanket on the Tulip baby sweater. I did a seed stitch border, and then worked stockinette stitch for 11 rows, and knit row 12 to make the ridges. Then I changed colors. I did three repeats of the colors, and it could be a bit bigger, but it's fine. I ended with the seed stitch rows, and then picked up along the sides of the blanket and worked 8 rows of seed stitch there too.

Untitled

I wanted a cute hat for his newborn photo shoot, and I returned to this old favorite. The pattern is from an old Debbie Bliss book - Kid's Knits for Heads, Hands and Toes. It is much cuter on him, but still too big, so no modeled pictures!

Untitled

And a simple welted newborn hat out of some leftovers. This barely fit in the hospital, but it was cute and received lots of compliments!

Now to get all the sweaters I have planned for the kids finished!
